Arkheron to enter early access November 27 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
Bonfire Studios’ isometric PvP game Arkheron is scheduled to enter early access on November 27 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Fifteen teams of three fight monsters and rival squads while ascending a tower until one team remains. Collected Relics grant abilities, with no fixed heroes or roles. The studio, founded by former Blizzard chief creative officer Rob Pardo, says the game remains far from its intended 1.0 competitive experience and plans to iterate using player feedback.
Suri: The Seventh Note launches on PS5 and PC
Tathvamasi Studios’ debut rhythm action platformer, Suri: The Seventh Note, launched on October 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, following three days of early access for Digital Deluxe Edition owners. Backed by Sony’s PlayStation India Hero Project, the game combines beat-aligned action with environments and music inspired by India’s regional cultures. The studio settled on 480 milliseconds between main beats. The prequel DLC Trials of Yama is also available, adding challenge rooms and puzzles.
FromSoftware delays The Duskbloods to 2027
FromSoftware has delayed The Duskbloods, its Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive RPG, from a planned 2026 release to 2027. The studio said development is in the final adjustment stage. Set in a Gothic- and Victorian-style world, the game focuses on online multiplayer, with both player-versus-player and player-versus-enemy gameplay.
Rockstar created about 600,000 NPC animations for GTA 6
Rockstar created about 600,000 animations for Grand Theft Auto 6’s NPCs, according to an Edge feature. A Los Angeles-based team of writers, directors and producers helped individualize characters, whose reactions vary with personality, surroundings, witnessed events and player behavior. Rockstar’s Phil Hooker described clearing a store before a robbery by provoking NPCs and then backing down. The game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Ray splitting adapts radiance cascades for 3D global illumination
Jack Tollenaar describes implementing ray splitting with radiance cascades (RC) for 3D global illumination. The method traces full rays from reconstructed screen-space positions, bins their results into cascade intervals, and merges those intervals using sparse surface probes. Probe LODs, temporal accumulation, and a secondary cache extend the approach to stabilize lighting and accumulate multiple bounces. Tollenaar reports that, in an Unreal implementation on a laptop RTX 5070, RC costs about 2 ms depending on probe sizing; ray tracing adds about 13 ms at two samples per pixel, with roughly 2 ms for ray deposits. Tracing cost varies by scene and hardware.
Prefix Sums Organize GPU Compaction, Expansion and Binning
This video explains how parallel prefix sums let GPU threads assign output offsets for variable-sized workloads, forming a common basis for compaction, expansion and binning. Examples include culling invisible objects, generating level-of-detail geometry, and assigning lights to clusters. It contrasts push-style output, which can require extra memory and produce imbalanced work, with pull-style output, which uses less memory but more computation. Atomic counters can compact results too, but may not preserve order.
Godot 4.8 beta 2 includes 144 fixes
Godot 4.8 beta 2 includes 144 fixes from 59 contributors, largely addressing regressions, with Godot 4.8 considered feature-complete. Fixes cover Compatibility renderer multiply blending, animation undo data and lightmap cache handling. Builds are available for Linux, macOS and Windows, with Web, XR and Android editors also offered; Android prerelease access requires joining a testing group. The .NET build requires .NET 10 or newer, raising the minimum from .NET 8. The beta remains prerelease software with known issues.

Tracing video game genre trends from 1975 to 2025
Mark Brown of Game Maker’s Toolkit traces genre shifts across 9,902 games in about 130 categories, using Backloggd’s annual popularity rankings and Wikipedia genre labels. The analysis follows the dominance of shoot ’em ups, platformers and action-adventures, then argues that digital distribution helped independent developers revive older genres and develop new forms. Brown acknowledges selection and language biases in the sample and emphasizes that genre boundaries remain subjective.
